Just recently, I had a chance to read John 15. This chapter of the Bible reminds us that God is the true and living vine. More importantly, it tells us when we remain in Him, we will bear much fruit. It also tells us without Him we can do nothing!
For some reason, this passage stood out to me recently.
My schedule was going a million miles a minute and I needed time to really connect (and stay connected) to God. For this reason, I decided to really dive into this passage. So much so, I started to read Secrets of the Vine, by Bruce Wilkinson. What a blessing!
This book provided me with a few nuggets I want to share with you as you go about your journey:
While you can do many great things, God wants us to do the things He has called us to do!
We all have our own plans. We know that we may want to be here or there within a certain time frame. But the truth of the matter is God has the one and ultimate plan for our lives! If you are in a season where you are not sure which direction to move, you have to take time to really seek God’s face. Ask Him for His direction. Ask Him whether there is something you should pay attention to. Determine if He wants you to do something in this season.
God wants to prune the unnecessary to provide the necessary
It is never a good feeling when we lose a certain thing we treasure or to feel as though our life is not working out as we see fit. But you may be in a moment where God is pruning away certain things so that you can bear more fruit. God has to do this if we are to live the life He desires for us! And yes, while I know that you may not understand it or you simply are not sure what God is doing, but it is time to study more, seek God intentionally and journal your thoughts. Ask Him exactly what should you let go of in this season so that you can move to the next level.
Stay connected to Him
We live in a world with so many distractions. Each and every day we are bombarded with social media, the news, people, opportunities, decisions, and the list can go on and on. And if we are not careful we can lose our way. For many of us, we can bury the very thing that God has called us to do for a thing that God never intended for our lives.
Wow.
Can I say that again (saying for myself!)
For many of us, we can bury the very thing that God has called us to do for a thing that God never intended for our lives.
As such, ask God. Is this the relationship you have for me? Is this the job you have for me? Is this the way you want me to go? But more importantly, if there is a thing, opportunity, relationship or anything that else that is drawing you away from God, it is time to let it go! No matter what, you have to stay connected to Him!
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples (John 15: 5-8).
Remember: God is waiting for you!
