I was waiting in line yesterday to purchase my niece’s Christmas gift and standing behind me was a man hilariously complaining about his grandson and the number of tennis shoes he already has. His wife had him standing in line while she shopped for this particular pair their grandson wanted. He said, “He has more shoes now than I have had in my entire lifetime! He don’t need more shoes. What he need is more feet! But the sad part about all of this is that he’s never satisfied with what he has. He always wants more.”
That statement stuck with me because that doesn’t just apply to kids. It can also be applicable to us as adults. God has blessed some us with more than we have ever asked for in our entire lifetime, yet we too, still want more. He’s blessed us with a nice house, but we want a bigger one. We have a nice car, but we want a newer one. We have much but we want much more. Philippians 4:11 says “for I have learned to be content with whatever I have.”
The message in all of this is there’s nothing wrong with wanting anything but if God doesn’t give you what you want, don’t be ungrateful and focus on the things you asked for that you didn’t get. But take a good look at all the things God gave you that you didn’t ask for! My prayer is that I will be content with whatever I have and be grateful any way He blesses me. In the words of Beverly Crawford, “If the Lord never does anything else for me. He’s done enough.”
