As I was walking on the sidewalk the other day, there was a very loud noise coming my way. It was so loud that it made everyone outside turn to see what it was. To our surprise it was a car driving at a fast speed with a flat tire. He was driving so fast that one of his hubcaps rolled off of his car as he flew by right in front of us. Some people laughed and made comments. One guy tried to flag him down but was unsuccessful. In the end, we all just shook our heads because the driver of the car seemed very unaware that as he was traveling on his journey, he had lost things along the way.
What became a funny moment to many, God made a serious moment for me. Are we so used to doing routine things that we’re unaware that we’ve lost some things along the way? Are we so used to going to church, that we’ve lost our reason for going? Or are we so used to not going to church that we’ve lost our desire for Christ and don’t even realize we lost it? Have we been in a relationship so long that we’ve lost the passion for one other? Or are we so used to being blessed that we’ve lost our appreciation for the One who gives us the blessings?
Revelation 2:4 says “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” Today is the day to pull over, see what you have lost along the way and get it back! Get back to having a daily devotion! Get back to praying! Get back going to church! Get back loving your enemies! Get back loving your job! Get back to doing the things that you first did when you first started on your journey with Christ! And once we all get back to basics, loving God more than anything, we are guaranteed to gain way more than we lose!
