What is the first thing you think about each morning? Do you wake up believing God can do the impossible in your life? Or do you allow your thoughts wander into defeat before getting out of bed? Before starting your day, you have to focus on God.. If you begin your morning with thoughts of victory, faith, hope and belief, it will set the tone for your day. However, if you begin with doubt or disbelief, you are certain to set a negative tone.
Setting up your thoughts
Recognizing this, a few years back I began to set up my morning thoughts. I would simply wake each morning and declare, “I believe, I expect and I receive.” This was a phrase I picked up after reading “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Peale. In addition, I would declare, “This is a great day!” And do you know what? I would have a fruitful day! So, I decided to take it a step further, I began to set up my thoughts on paper. I organized my thoughts and created my morning prayer.
Standing on His Word
I decided to get an understanding of God’s Word. Also, I wanted to know what the Word said about me. I began to recite the following scriptures:
- Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21)
- I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37)
- I can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13)
- Thy rod and thy staff comfort me (Psalm 23:4)
- I am not fearful, for God is with me (Isaiah 41:10).
Here is a part of my morning prayer:
I declare and decree, death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). I stand on the Lord’s promises for my life. I am the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13). I am beautiful and fearfully made (Psalm 139:14). No weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). I am more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37). All things work out for my good (Romans 8:28). Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all days of my life (Psalm 23:6). I am the lender and not the borrower (Deuteronomy 28:12). My debts, loans, and mortgages are cancelled and dissolved (Colossians 2:14).
Reflection: What do you think about in the morning? Create a daily morning thought for your life. Consider taking it a step further and creating your morning prayer. Find scriptures that you can declare and decree over your life and incorporate into a morning prayer. Remember, God’s word shall not come back void!
Remember: God is waiting on you!
