“Teedy, yes or no?” I said, “Well, I can’t answer that.” My nephew said, “Why not? It’s a simple question.” I said, “Yes, it is a simple question but my answer will depend on what you’re asking me to do. I can’t say yes to something before I know what I’m saying yes to.” He said, “But if you give me your answer first, then I’ll tell you.” I said, “No. Tell me first, then I’ll give you my answer.” He said, “What! You don’t trust me?”
Now, I must tell you that my nephew had to be 5 years old at this time. So, I paused for a moment looking at him because, keep in mind, he was very serious. I gave it more thought and said, “No, I don’t.” He said, “I can tell.”
With so much uncertainty lying ahead in our lives, we often pull away from commitments until we know what we’re committing to, particularly when it relates to our relationship with God. However, God is looking for you and I to say YES to Him BEFORE we know the question, BEFORE we know the assignment and BEFORE we know how everything is going to work out.
He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Unlike my nephew, God is not five. He is our faithful Father and we can trust Him with everything before He tells us anything.
Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. We may not know what our future holds, but we do know Who holds our future and in Him, we can place our trust.
