Joanna Weaver, author of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, once shared her personal story of being a “born worrier.” She said, “I come from a long line of worriers. With all the potential danger in the world, there seemed to be only one response – worry. I remember lying in bed at night going over my list of fears. Somehow, as a young teenager, I had determined that the secret for avoiding trouble was to worry about it. In fact, I worried if I forgot to worry about something.”
It’s human nature to be concerned about things happening in our lives today, but if we are not careful, the devil will entice us to worry beyond what’s reasonable and that’s a serious problem for us as believers because our fears replace our faith. It consumes a huge amount of our time and energy and we reap absolutely no benefit in return. Why? Because we all know that FEAR is simply False Evidence Appearing Real. When we worry, we literally torment ourselves and the enemy uses us to do his job until we eventually become our own enemy.
So, what’s the cure? The cure for worrying is worship! Worry leads us right into the schemes of the enemy but worship leads us right into the presence of God and in God’s presence we find peace! 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all of our care upon Him, for He cares for us. Why struggle carry around something, that He would love to carry for you? There will always be situations in our lives that make us be concerned because we’re human but with God’s help, we can live our human lives victoriously and overcome anxiety by simply replacing our fears with faith! Never forget that worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.
