I was in the store shopping with my mom when I saw some skirts I liked. I grabbed two of them and went to the dressing room to try them on. One of them fit really well and I loved it! The other one was just ok. There was one other skirt that I wanted to try on so I decided that I would ask my mom if she could bring it to me.
She had left from outside of the dressing room so I had to call out to her. I said, “Momma!” Many ladies were in the store and I’m sure many of them were mothers but when I said “Momma” only one voice replied, “Yes baby.” ☺️From her voice, I knew that was my mom and from my voice, she knew I was her child.
In John 10:27, Jesus says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” Because I know my mom so well and have spent time with her, I can discern her voice. Well, just like with our mothers, our fathers or our friends, if we want to be able to discern God’s voice, we have to spend time with Him.
As we spend more time in God’s presence through prayer, reading His Word and worship, we come to know Him better and recognize His voice and can confidently know if it’s Him speaking for us or the enemy speaking against us. Don’t be fooled! The enemy speaks too. If we’re not careful with our time, the enemy can use his schemes to get into our minds. So, you need to know not only who’s talking to you, but who you’re talking to too! Because Jesus not only wants you to know His voice but He wants to know yours too!
