My niece LOVES macaroni! Every time she comes to visit, two things are certain: she’s always hungry and when asked what she wants, her reply is “Do you have any macaroni?” It never fails. I put the water in the pot. I place the pot on the stove. Turn the stove on and as soon as I pour the macaroni in the water, she asks, “Are they ready?” I say, “You know they’re not ready yet!” She responds with the most disappointed voice, “Well, how long will they take to cook? They’re going to take tooooooooooo long! I’ll just get McDonald’s.”
I don’t know anyone who likes to wait. We have been conditioned to have it our way, right away. Whether it’s waiting for food, waiting in line, waiting in traffic or waiting for marriage; waiting is hard. Desires we long for, prayers we’ve been praying that have yet to be answered can entice us to become impatient, discouraged and frustrated. And it’s even more difficult when there are no guarantees when our waiting will end.
Thankfully, Isaiah 40:31 promises that those “who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Waiting, while hard, is not hopeless. When we wait on God, we produce fruit such as patience, perseverance and endurance. He renews us, draws us closer to Him and strengthens us. Just because it hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t mean it won’t. Wait on God’s perfect timing, trust Him for the outcome and never settle for less. God wants you to have His best!
