Scripture Reading: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
(Matthew 18:19-20 NIV)
One thing I can truly say is God has blessed my family and me with awesome friends. So much so, that our friends aren’t just our friends but they are truly our family. But even better, through the years, our friendships have grown from just friends into Godly relationships. These Godly relationships have helped me through the good and not so good times.
The power of two or more
Recognizing the power of two or more as the scripture states, my best friend and I began to commit to pray each morning by waking early at 5:30 a.m. during a season in our lives. I would be the first to admit, there were some mornings we miss! But for the most part, we were faithful daily to bring our petitions before God. This has been a blessing in my life and I believe in hers as well.
He is in the midst
Our simple sacrifice to pray consistently has also been a blessing to our friendship. I believe we can better relate to each other because God is in the midst. In addition to her, God has blessed me with other genuine friends and family members I can pray for or with frequently. I have even taken my prayer life further by hosting a monthly prayer breakfast for my family and friends.
Whatever relationship you want to grow, you have to include prayer. No matter if you have a rocky relationship with a family member, friend, or even an enemy, begin to pray with them. God tells us in His Word, where there are two or more gathered in the name of Jesus Christ, He is in the midst. (Matthew 18:20)
Of course, there may be some people who will not want to pray with you. Or simply, there may be some people that you should simply pray from afar. But God will reveal to you whom you should establish a prayer life with and whom you should pray for. Begin to pray for the person first. Ask God to open his or her heart and mind to receive prayer.
Be the initiator
I can recall being close friends with someone and having a desire to pray with the person, but the devil filled my mind with negative thoughts. I felt this person would not want to pray. As a matter of fact, I felt the person would draw away from me because of my desire to speak about God. You have to recognize this is the trick of the enemy.
God laid it so heavy on my heart; I had to ask this friend to pray. Do you know what? This person revealed to me he not only had a strong desire to pray, but it had been on his mind for some time. Not only did I pray with this person, but led him to the salvation prayer! Now I am no longer fearful about initiating prayer.
So often we do not openly share the Word of God, but it is our responsibility to help our family and friends to have a relationship with God (Acts 28:31). Be bold and establish a prayer life with those around you today, you may be able to bring someone to salvation.
Daily Prayer: Father God, we worship You in spirit and in truth. We thank You for all that You have done in our lives. We ask this day, that You help us to form the right relationships that will glorify Your kingdom. For this reason, help us to stay connected to those to whom You have purposed for our lives. Let our relationships not just be about fun or simply enjoying each other, but to continuously spread the good news about Christ. Give us the confidence to share Christ with others, knowing that if we are not ashamed of You, You will also not be ashamed of us before our Heavenly Father. We thank You for protecting our unions and relationships and we ask today they are covered with the blood of Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Reflection: Today, ask God to protect relationships with spouses, family, friends, colleagues and future relationships that He will establish. Also, ask the Holy Spirit if there is a relationship that you have not established, that will move the kingdom forward, be established today.
Remember: God is waiting on you!
