Recently, I had a dream. God gave me words in an orderly fashion. While I saw the words in my sleep, upon waking, it was hard for me to recall these words. I began to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these words to me and He did.
God took me to Psalm 23 and provided me with a whole new meaning to the passage. As I began to recite each verse God began to give me a revelation.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. (v1)
Do you realize how powerful this is? God is saying to us He is our shepherd. At first glance you may not get the true meaning of what a shepherd really is, but think about it. What a shepherd does? He leads his sheep.
More importantly, think about the sheep. They simply follow. Not at one point do the sheep tell the shepherd, “I think I have a better plan,” or “It looks like I should go this way.” The sheep simply follow the shepherd and because of their obedience they are fed, clothed and loved. At not one point is there an unmet need or want.
Are you truly allowing God to shepherd you? If there is an area in your life that has not been met? Allow Him to be your shepherd and He will lead you to the blessings of God. Do you dare to follow him today?
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters. (v2)
If you are simply tired of being tired, God promises to restore your soul in Him today. The problems that have weighed you down for so long; begin to ask God for restoration in your life.
I like to think of it as asking God to reset you to your default. When God created you He created you in His likeness. Unfortunately, when we journey away from God’s purpose and plan for our lives we get weighed down by the troubles of the world. If there has been a deviation from God’s plan ask Him to restore you to His default.
He restoreth my soul, He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. (v3)
In life, God has already set up one clear path for each and every one of us. He has already designed your career, your family and friends, and your destiny. But the reason we neglect to live a life that is pleasing to God is because we fail to travel the path God has for our lives.
Through it all, God’s main desire is for us to spend eternal life with Him. Therefore, we should live our lives according to His purpose. In Isaiah 1:19 Gods says, “If you be willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land.” Ask God to make His path clear to you. Begin to ask God which road should you travel and what path to choose. Once He gives you a clear direction, stay the course and don’t give up no matter what comes your way.
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for thou art with me; thy rod and the staff they comfort me. (v4)
I love this verse. It lets us know that yes, in life we may face disappointments but we have nothing to fear because God is with us every step of the way. I think Romans 8:28 sums it up best. “All things (not some) work together for the good of those who love the Lord.” So, there is nothing to fear when trials and tribulations appear. Know that in the end you will have the victory! (Romans 8:37)
Just as the verse says, the rod and staff they comfort me. Look at what God has already done in your life, if He brought you through trials before, He certainly can do it again.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies, thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (v5)
God will make all the naysayers see the goodness of God. Many people may see your situation now and think you are beyond help. However, God works best when your home has been foreclosed, your spouse left you with children to raise or there is simply no hope! Just as He has raised Lazarus from the dead, your situation will also live again!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of The Lord forever. (v6)
Nothing teaches this lesson better than my mother who raised my siblings as a single mother. We recited Psalm 23 every morning before going to school and a total of three times a day! Today not only has our situation turned around but just as this verse implies, goodness and mercy has followed each of us all days of our lives!
My mother believed that God would make us successful despite the difficulties we faced at that time. Today, we are living witnesses her prayers paid off. My siblings and I are all successful and I know without a shadow of doubt it was because of her prayers. She kept praying and God blessed her and her seed and continues to do so.
Remember, God is waiting on You!
