Me: Good morning Mr. John! How are you doing this morning?
Mr. John: Good morning! I’m fine.
Me: Thank you for opening the door for me. Have a great day!
Mr. John: You’re welcome! You too!
Mr. John comes in faithfully every morning at 6:00 am. He opens the door for the ladies, makes coffee for the office and leaves at 8:30 am to go home. No one makes him do this and in the grand scheme of things, he doesn’t play a huge part in the business day to day activities but the part that he plays to me, is huge and the thing that I admire the most about Mr. John is his servant’s heart.
In Acts 28:3 Paul gathered wood to make a fire to warm everyone after they were shipwreck. When you are a servant, no task is beneath you because it is in the tedious tasks that we actually imitate Jesus Christ. He is our perfect example of someone who had a servant heart and we should too. Your servant’s heart is revealed in little acts you do that others don’t think of doing. Yes, we all love to do “big” things for God and receive all of the praises but someone has to be willing to do the little things. When you put JESUS first, OTHERS second and YOURSELF last you will find JOY! Martin Luther King said it best: “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.” In this life you are guaranteed to find greatness when you have maximized smallness!
