When the Israelites were traveling in the wilderness, God made a promise to them. He promised to send down food from heaven six days a week. He told them to only gather enough food for each day, nothing extra – except the day before the Sabbath. Only on that day, they were allowed to store up two days’ worth of food. Unfortunately, some of them were disobedient, didn’t fully trust God and they gathered extra food on the days they were told not to. And as a result, the extra food that they gathered became rotten and full of worms by the next morning.
When we’re in the wilderness, not knowing where the path we’re on is leading us; it can be hard to trust God. Even if His track record proves faithful, because of our human flesh, we’re tempted to discount His ability to do the impossible and we implement our own backup plan. We hold on to stuff and people, just in case God doesn’t come through for us to make sure we’re still “good.” But even though we may be good, God is always better and He never needs our backup! He will provide and His provision will never fail.
Isaiah 43:19 God says, “For I am about to do something new!” As we enter into the New Year, allow God room to do SOMETHING NEW FOR YOU! Get up every day with the expectation that He will provide fresh and exciting things in your life and don’t worry about what will happen the next day. For the next day will worry about itself. If He did it before, He will do it again and again…and again…and again. For He makes all things NEW!
