Can we all be honest and admit that there are some people who, for one reason or another, just rub us the wrong way? They may be our family members, coworkers, church members, neighbors or friends but they drive us absolutely crazy. The famous saying is “to live above with those we love, that will be glory. To live below with those we know, well…that’s a different story.” So, as Christians, how can we love people who are difficult to love?
Ephesians 4:32 puts it best. “Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Understand we cannot do this on our own. We must know and rely on the love God has for us. Think of all of the times we’ve rubbed God the wrong way and He still loved us! He still blessed us! He still protected us! When we view difficult people through the eyes of God, we don’t have to force a smile or fake a laugh but we can have genuine compassion, understanding and display patience towards them. Always remember that the person who acts unlovable is the person who most needs to be loved and who better to love on them than YOU!
