My job has a door at the entrance of the building that, for security reasons, automatically locks after it closes. As I was walking down the hallway the other day, I saw a woman standing at the door pulling on it. She was using all the force she had to try to get that door open. First she had one hand on the door, then she used both hands to try to get it open but no matter what she did that door did not open because it was locked for a reason. I will admit that I found a little humor in the fact that she kept pulling on the door and didn’t think to just ring the doorbell, but before I could get too deep into my chuckle, the Lord whispered to me and said, “that’s exactly how you looked pulling on the doors that I closed in your life for a reason.”
It is true. I have stood at and pulled on doors that God has closed and couldn’t understand why the doors wouldn’t open. I used all that I could to get them open and I didn’t seek Him to ask why the door wouldn’t open. I assumed they should be open but today I realize that if He hadn’t closed the wrong ones, I would have never found the right ones! Matthew 6:33 is my first go to now when looking for direction. It says but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. If a door is closed in your life today, seek God. He directs our path through the closed and open doors in our lives and He closes the wrong doors so that we can walk into the right doors! By the way, the woman did get into the building after the receptionist let her in but only to find out that she was not only at the wrong address but on the wrong street.
Seek and you will find… And the door will be opened to you. You won’t have to force it open.
