“Ms. Crystal, can I have some cookies?” he said as he sat in his chair. I didn’t answer. He waited a while, stood up and asked a little louder. “Ms. Crystal, Can I Have Some Cookies?” Again, I didn’t answer. His next request, he was standing at my side, hitting me on my leg screaming, “MS. CRYSTAL! COOKIES!” I just could not hold back my laugh. I looked at him, smiled, gave him a big hug and said, “I just want you to know that I heard you but I didn’t answer you because I have something better for you than those cookies.” He was so happy! You see, I know him and I know that he loves Doritos! I could have given him what he was asking for but because he’s so special to me, I wanted to give him something better!
God answers prayers, even when we don’t realize it. Yes, we may think we know what’s best for us but God sees the whole picture and because we are so special to Him, sometimes He lovingly refuses to give us what we keep asking Him for simply because He has something better for us. Prayer is one of the greatest privileges we have as God’s children so always be persistent in your prayers. 1 John 5:14 says, “This is the confident we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Whatever you’re asking Him for today, be persistent and confident in this one thing – He hears you and He just may be getting ready to give you more than you’re asking for!
