One of my nephews came over yesterday with my Dad for a brief visit. I hadn’t seen him in a while so it was great to see his face! While my Dad and I were talking, my nephew opened the refrigerator, looked in the bottom drawer where he knows the fruit cups are, opens the drawer, selects the fruit cup he wants and closed the refrigerator door. My Dad says, “So you’re just going to get what you want and not ask?” My nephew says, “Oh!” With the cutest smirk on his face, “Teedy, can I have this?”
How many times have I made choices, without seeking God first and have asked God to approve the choices I made? I took the time to carefully select what I WANTED without asking God what He wanted for me yet, expected Him to say yes! Matthew 6:33 says “But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Our God is so awesome that He gives us a free will. We have the power to make choices on our own. However, if our choices are not aligned with His will for our lives, we end up missing out on ALL THESE THINGS! And as an added bonus, God rewards those who diligently seek Him FIRST. After making plenty of not so great choices on my own, my desire now is that I only want to have what God wants me to have. And whatever His choice for me is, I’m good with it because He always makes the best choice for me. The days of making our own choices and settling for less are over. Today, let’s receive God’s best by making Him our first choice!
