As with any new relationship, when my husband and I first started dating we would stay on the phone for long periods of time. One time I was at home on the phone with him and he said, “What’s that beeping in the background?” Thinking something’s wrong with him, I said, “What? I don’t hear anything.” He said, “Don’t say anything. Listen.”
As we both listened, I heard the smoke detectors beeping warning me there was a problem with the devices. He said, “You really mean to tell me that you don’t hear that?” Boldly I said, “No! That’s been going on! (Like duh) I’m so immune to it now that when it happens, my mind literally don’t pay it any attention and I tune it completely out.”
Even more important than ignoring the warning signs of a faulty smoke detector, ignoring God’s warning signs in His word and completely tuning them out, for any reason, is a dangerous road to travel on.
In Deuteronomy 28, God sent prophets to warn His people and the world of what could happen if His instructions were ignored. Unfortunately, most of the warnings God sent were unheeded and many suffered horrible consequences as a result.
If the warning signs in your life are continuously ignored then God will often times, because He doesn’t want you to be ignorant, send someone in your life to remind you to look, be sober, be vigilant, be not deceived, resist, yield not, watch and hear because there is potential danger ahead. How many times has something happened in your life and when you took a moment to reflect back, you realized that you had many signs, but you chose to ignore them. May God open our eyes, ears and hearts to the warning signs all around us and especially to the alarms that are already going off! Never is it a good time to ignore God’s warning signs!
