Scripture Reading: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10)
Before heading out this shopping season, make certain you have already committed to God first in your finances through your tithes and offerings.
Upon graduating from college, I decided I wanted to consistently give back by tithing. So, I did. With a very fixed income at the time, I decided I would step out on faith and trust God. You know, it was funny, when I fell on hard times and reneged on my commitment to tithe, everything that could go right went wrong! But when I recommitted to God, amazingly my dollars would stretch and I never went without.
Can you really afford to give 10%?
The thought of giving up money could be very fearful, at least it was for me. I questioned whether I would be able to meet my needs. I would ask, “How could God expect me to live off 90% of my income?” I thought to myself, “I am barely making ends meet now!”
And I know I am not alone. When I speak to others about tithing, many are fearful they would be unable to tithe. But the reality is, you can’t afford not to. God tells us in His Word, “He will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing you would not have room enough to receive” (Malachi 3:10).
Tithing brings blessings
In Malachi 3:8-12, the Word speaks about tithing. It also provides key principles regarding tithing. It tells us that tithing brings about blessings. The scripture instructs us to bring our tithes to the Lord and we will receive the following blessings from God:
- God will bless us abundantly (v.10)
- God will fight enemies on our behalf (v.11)
- Our fruit will not be destroyed (v.11)
- People will see the favor upon our lives (v.12)
More importantly, God says, “Try me” (Malachi 3:10)! Are you willing to try Him today?
Deciding to trust God in your finances requires a faithful commitment to God. It means even when your change is “strange” and times are rough, you will still commit to what God has already instructed you to do. Now listen, when you decide to tithe and really trust God, there may be distractions to get you off track. But warning – this is only a test! Stay true to your commitment and you will see God’s blessings in your life.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for your goodness and your continuous blessings. The Bible reminds us if we bring our tithes to the storehouse, you will open a blessing we will not have room enough to receive (Malachi 3:10). We ask that you give us the grace to trust you in the area of our finances and other areas of our lives. We declare and decree everything you have put under our care is aligning with the Word of God. God we thank you in advance, In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we pray (John 14:14). Amen.
