One of the most memorable moments of this year’s Emmy awards was when Viola Davis won the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. I will admit that I don’t watch her show but I do read the news and social media was swarming with the reaction Viola received from Taraji P. Henson who was also nominated in the same category. For Taraji, I’m sure it was a bittersweet moment. I’m sure she wanted to win just as much as Viola did. However, although Taraji didn’t win the award, many called her a winner because of the choice she made to support and encourage the person who did.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up.” Many of us do not understand the beauty in encouragement! The success of another man or woman should motivate us, yet often times, it separates us. Instead of being genuinely happy that you received the promotion, that you’re getting married, that you have a brand new car, that you’re able to afford nice things, the enemy convinces us that we should be bitter, envious, and unsupportive. But another person’s gain is not your loss. Thank God that He has blessed them and trust and pray that if He blesses them, in His timing, He will bless you too! When you encourage others, you in the process are encouraged. So, don’t be a hater…Be an encourager because the world we’re in has enough critics already. I love this quote “Aspire to Inspire before you Expire!”
