Throughout life, you will encounter many relationships. You will make relationships at your job, church, school or other areas of your life. But how do you know if you are in relationships God intended?
Iron sharpens iron
God says in His word, “Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend (Proverbs 27:17).” A relationship should make you better off, not worse off. God didn’t attend for you to be used, abused, mistreated or unloved. God is love! And in His word, He expresses His love for us by sacrificing His son for our salvation. Your relationships should be ones that are lifting you up, not bringing you down.
Discernment
God give us all the power of discernment and wisdom, if we ask! Before entering any relationship, ask God what is this person’s purpose for my life? Is this a relationship of God? Acknowledge God’s wisdom for your life, and question whether you should move forward with this relationship or simply move out. God will reveal His will through prayer, visions, and sometimes from the person his or herself. But more importantly, once God reveals His purpose, be prepared to move in the direction God has given you.
Bigger and better
If God is telling you to move on, you have to understand He has something bigger and better around the corner. In His word, He says it is better to end a thing, than the beginning thereof (Ecclesiastes 7:8). Yes, it may hurt for a while, but know joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5)! You have to understand with every relationship God is teaching you a lesson or making you stronger. Take a moment to reflect what you need to know from each relationship, understand what boundaries to set and more importantly, let God lead the way!
Remember: God is waiting on you!
