One of the things I appreciate about my job is the presence of our security guards. With the many safety concerns in the workplace today, it’s comforting to know that security is present, particularly on the days when I have to stay late and it’s dark outside when I leave. However, last night when I was preparing to leave, I didn’t see the guard. I waited inside for a few minutes to see if he would appear, but he didn’t. For a moment, I became concerned because I could see that it was dark outside and I didn’t want to walk out alone but, after some time had passed, I had no choice. To my surprise, as soon as I walked outside the door and turned towards the parking lot, there was the guard. I immediately said, “I thought you left.” He said, with the most humbling voice, “Oh no, I can’t leave you.”
It was a reminder to me that no matter what situation we’re in, no matter where we are, no matter how dark it is in our lives, God promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He will always be there for us, not only in the brightest but also in the darkest times of our lives. We may not always see Him, but we can have assurance in knowing that “Oh no! He can’t leave us.”
So, if you are going through a dark time in your life now, know that you are not alone. God has not abandoned you. He is there and He promised to be with you every step of the way.
