I was walking back to work from lunch the other day and headed in my direction was a man with a large dog. I noticed that every time someone would pass by them, the dog would get close to that person and bark at them and the man did not restrain him. I said to myself, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” So, before he came close to me, I prayed first that the dog wouldn’t chase after me and I started walking in the street. When the man passed me, he gave me a look as if I was over reacting and said, “Ma’am, he’s not going to bite you!!” I didn’t look at him. I didn’t respond. I kept walking and once I was safe in the building, I looked back and saw the dog walking away.
James 4:7 tells us “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” As Christians, it is extremely important for us to recognize that we have an enemy who works overtime in his attacks against us. Just like this dog, there are times when he barks at us and some of us may say, “Oh! It’s just a bark, you don’t have to worry.” But God tells us in His word that we stay need to resist the enemy! Don’t play with him! Don’t get comfortable in his company! Don’t ignore the fact that he’s coming against you with his lies and temptations because he may just be barking at you now, but you never know the day when he may bite you! We must draw near to God with the Word of God! That is our only weapon against the enemy and then we must resist! Be drastic! Get in the street if you have to! RUN! And look back and watch the enemy FLEE!
