Recently, I had a conversation with my student. She wanted to know how I started doing some of the things I am doing these days. I told her about some of my first moments on television and how nervous I was. Astonished, she couldn’t believe it! I stated not only was I super nervous, but I was also so afraid!
There have been many moments that I have been so afraid to do what I call “big assignments” from God. But I always stood by this motto >>> “Do it afraid!”
This is also demonstrated in the Bible. I love reading the book of Esther. If you are not familiar with this book of the Bible, I recommend reading it. Esther was faced with a huge problem. There was a plot to destroy her people, the Jews. As a result, she planned to meet with the king to save her people, however she was uncertain of the outcome.
But she decided to take action. It was custom during those times, that if the king did not call someone to enter, he or she could be put to death unless the king held out the golden sceptre (Esther 4:11). Despite this, she decided to go anyway and stated, “if I perish, I perish.”
See, the devil knows that if he could put fear in your heart, it will keep you from moving to where God has called you to be. While it is okay to be fearful at times or even afraid, we have to move forward in faith anyway. The Bible reminds us that fear is not from God, therefore if you are fearful, declare the Word of God upon your life. He tells us in His Word:
- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
- The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1)
- When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. (Psalm 57:3)
So what about you?
Are you fearful or afraid to do a big assignment God has called you to do? Move forward anyway. Know that God will be there with you! I often think about it – what if I allowed fear to stand in the way? I would not be where I am today!
Remember: God is waiting on you!
